Falling in Love with Ourselves

The Soul journey is ultimately about remembering WE ARE LOVE. We were created by Love, for Love, for the purpose of Love. In order to live that Love, however, we first have to heal the places within us where we have forgotten we were Love, or told we weren’t Love, loved, or lovable; or that love had to be earned. Remembering Love is a life-long journey, and each step brings us closer and closer to the FREEDOM we were meant to enjoy in the human experience.

Loving Myself

In becoming my Wild Divine

I have finally fallen in love with

Myself.

No more apologies or explanations.

I am the Wild Divine

Having left behind

Guilt

Shame

and encultured shoulds.

Walking my own path.

Living my own truth.

Uncompromisingly dedicated to ME.

I Am the Wild Divine.

Luscious in my fullness.

Softened by time.

Freed of rigid angles

The sharp edges of resentment’s scorn made soft.

Living beyond the fray.

Thriving outside the norm.

The world’s never seen a woman like me before.

Mary Magdalene’s Message for Our Times

Below is the talk I presented for the Mary Magdalene Studies Association Annual Conference on 7/22/22. Video recording to follow.

We find ourselves at a critical place in the human evolution – a time during which systems which have been built on fear, power, oppression, and control are in a fast journey toward their own collapse.  It is a time not unlike the time in which Jesus, and the Magdalene, themselves lived. Jesus, through his own training and practice, uncovered the both the cause and the cure of what was ailing humanity and shared this knowledge and training with his disciples.  The cause was a lack of what we would now call “psycho-spiritual development.”  The cure was a transformational process which led its participants into what in canonical scripture Jesus called Malkuth (kingdom of God), and what is referred to as Anthropos in the gnostic gospels.

Having said all this, Christ departed.

The disciples were in sorrow,

shedding many tears, and saying:

“How are we to go among the unbelievers

and announce the gospel of the Kingdom of the Son of Man?

They did not spare his life,

so why should they spare ours?”

Then Mary arose,

embraced them all, and began to speak to her brothers:

“Do not remain in sorrow and doubt,

for his Grace will guide you and comfort you.

Instead, let us praise his greatness,

for he has prepared us for this.

He is calling upon us to become fully human (Anthropos).”

Thus Mary turned their hearts toward the Good,

and they began to discuss the meaning of the Teacher’s words.

Gospel of Mary Page 9:5-20

Mary, called Magdalene, was the one among Jesus’ disciples to fully embody these teachings.  This is evidenced in these words from Luke’s gospel:

After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.

Luke 8: 1-3

Jean Yves-Leloup in his translation and commentary on Mary’s gospel explains what it meant to be “cured of seven demons.”  He described it as a process of initiation through which its participants were freed of the inner “demons” that would otherwise infringe on their ability to be the most authentic self – the person God made them to be. This is further confirmed by contemporary authors writing about ancient alchemy including Dennis William Hauck.

In being cured of seven demons, Mary completed and then mastered the transformational process taught by Jesus, both experiencing Malkuth, and becoming anthropos – fully Divine and Fully Human.  In this, Mary was fully empowered in her unique giftedness and fully embodied her mission and purpose in this lifetime. She became sovereign unto herself by transmuting the unhealed wounds, past traumas, and spiritual fears such that she had now become a radiant temple through which her Divine nature could be fully expressed and manifest in the world.  As such, Mary, called Magdalene, became, like Jesus, a vessel and catalyst of Love in the world.

For 2000 years, this process of transformation has been both a closely guarded secret, and hiding in plain sight. In Mary’s own gospel, she describes a portion of that process:

“Freed from this third climate, the soul continued its ascent,

and found itself in the fourth climate.

This has seven manifestations:

the first manifestation is Darkness;

the second, Craving;

the third, Ignorance;

the fourth, Lethal Jealousy;

the fifth, Enslavement to the Body;

the sixth, Intoxicated Wisdom;

the seventh, Guileful Wisdom.

These are the seven manifestations of Wrath,

and they oppressed the soul with questions:

‘Where do you come from murderer?’

and ‘Where are you going, vagabond?’

The soul answered:

‘That which oppressed me has been slain;

that which encircled me has vanished;

my craving has faded,

and I am freed from my ignorance.’”

“’I left the world with the aid of another world;

a design was erased,

by virtue of a higher design.

Henceforth I travel toward Repose,

where time rests in the Eternity of Time;

I go now into Silence.’”

Having said all this, Mary became silent,

Gospel of Mary 16: 1-19, 17: 1-7

While we do not have the complete text of Mary’s gospel, between the pages that have been recovered and canonical scripture, we can stitch together an effective process for supporting human beings in becoming self-actualized. Self-actualized people know:

  • Who they are.
  • What their unique gifts are.
  • How they are being called to develop and share these gifts for the sake of their own fulfillment, and for the sake of the betterment of the world.

Additionally, self-actualized human beings are able to

  • Reason, discern and exercise their own truth.
  • Have cultivated a deeply intimate relationship with their own inner authority.
  • Are not blindly compliant with the status quo
  • And are naturally compassionate and caring toward others.

Jesus, and Mary Magdalene supported people in becoming self-actualized because they knew that those who had successfully achieved anthropos would naturally come together in the creation of a better world.

The need to support humanity in becoming self-actualized has never been more critical than it is today.  Fortunately, we have both scripture and Mary’s gospel to provide clues as to how we might accomplish this. We also have two systems from the ancient world from which I believe Jesus and Mary drew to create their methods.

  1. The Tree of Life from the ancient tradition of Jewish mysticism.
  2. The Chakra system from ancient India.

I have drawn from both in the creation of the tools I use in my own ministry of supporting people in becoming self-actualized. My book, Authentic Freedom – Claiming a Life of Contentment and Joy and the protocol which it describes is based exclusively on the chakra system integrating scripture with contemplative prayer and creative mindfulness to produce a simple yet effective protocol for freeing ourselves of our own “demons.” The Tree of Life figures prominently in the shadow and depth work I do with both clients and students in support of their journey toward anthropos.

When we apply the methods Jesus taught and which were perfected in Mary, such that she was given the title of Magdalene, we find ourselves living in a whole new world. Supporting others in doing the same, lead the way to the new world promised by the ancients, and fully articulated as the Holy Bride in the Book of Revelation:

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.  I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of the heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them.  They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.  He will wipe every tear from their eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!  Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”    He said to me, “It is done.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.  To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.  They who overcome will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.”

Revelation 21: 1-7

The time to bring forth the new world is NOW and the Magdalene provides the example and the tools for doing so.  Self-actualization is the method and Love is the means.

Magdalene Training:

The Magdalene Priest and Priestess Training continues the work of Mary, called “Magdalene” as ordained by Christ by empowering you to live out the fullness of your unique giftedness – both for the sake of your own fulfillment and in service to the betterment of the world.

Potent Portal – Summer Solstice Report

Sisters, Brothers, and Friends,

Today we find ourselves in the center of the potent and powerful Solstice Portal. The portal began just before Tuesday’s full moon and will carry us through the final days of this week.

The 2022 solstice portal is especially potent as it marks final endings (last week’s full moon) and dramatic new beginnings. We have been preparing for this portal since early May, the fruits of which will unfold through October of this year.

Prior to May’s preparations for this portal, we may have found ourselves facing many deaths in our lives – literal and figurative. Things that were once life-giving and were bearing at least some fruit suddenly came to a halt (a halt that you may now be aware had been happening since late 2021).  Some were left empty-handed. No work. No vision for anything new. No amount of effort would bring about the new that was simply not yet to be.  We had to really let our old lives die.

As of May 1, sparks of the new were beginning to reveal themselves.  For some, what may have begun as glimpses and glimmers turned into a full-on revisioning complete with creating. This was a time of excitement and hope for new opportunities and new beginnings.

Then that full moon on June 14th pulled the plug. Some will have heard this HALT as the reminder that with new beginnings comes a time of rest. We must leave the seeds alone that we have planted so they can begin to take root. The time from the full moon to this week’s solstice is exactly for this.  Rest. Do nothing. Be still. Tend to the mundane.

While we have been biding our time, the energies of the impending solstice have been ramping up.  I’m hearing reports of vertigo, migraines, powerful waves of energy being felt, bizarre dreams and more. The big terminology I’ve heard is “a look back.”  This look back is taking on a wide variety of forms from old physical injuries and pains reappearing, mind loops of former life experiences (old loves, old jobs, old friends, old behavior patterns, etc.), and old fears. Just this morning I was awakened at 2am with a full-blown panic attack – for no reason whatsoever! I wasn’t even having a nightmare.  Just panic for the sake of panic.  UGH!

This look back is an opportunity to bid a final farewell to all that which represented our old lives (completed karmic contracts).  The symptoms of vertigo, headaches, energy waves, dreams, etc. are representative of our Souls’ receiving new instructions, upgraded programming, and revised blueprints for the new lives we have already gotten a glimpse of, but have not yet fully landed.

Remember this is a period of releasing and receiving so if you’re feeling a little under the weather, or just “not quite right,” be kind to yourself as you are being made ready to be catapulted into a whole new life for yourself and it’s normal to feel a little bit of the bends or something akin to altitude sickness as your body adjusts to the new programs coming in while simultaneously cleansing itself of the old that is on its way out.  Drink lots of water and listen to your body’s needs. For example, this morning I was hit by an overwhelming craving for a Hardee’s fried chicken sandwich, curly fries, and a Coke – the last thing I would normally choose to eat!

Finally, I want to say thank you!  Thank you for the critically important work you have done up to and including the ending of your karmic contracts. Your (often difficult) work was necessary for establishing the foundation for this next stage in humanity’s evolution. The work you will be doing moving forward is known by your Soul and will be revealed in perfect Divine timing and in perfect alignment with who you are and what you need at this stage in your own personal journey.  While one way of being has ended, the new promises to be more life-giving, more fruitful, and more in harmony with all you have come to know about yourself, your unique gifts, and your calling in this world.

The Force is with you!

Love,

Lauri

The Divided States of America

Rome (aka the USA) is burning! In some places literally. In most other places, the nation is experiencing an increasingly volatile burning from the inside. What was called by the founders of this nation, “The United States,” is imploding from within due to division. At this point, we may as well admit the truth – we are no longer the United States of America.  The USA may more accurately be described as “The Divided States of America.”

Even with our heads in the sand, the division is obvious:

  • Racists vs. People of Color
  • Democrat vs. Republican
  • American Nationalists vs. everyone else
  • Rich vs. Poor
  • Evangelical Christians vs. everyone else
  • Anti-abortion vs. Pro-choice
  • Homophobic vs. everyone else
  • Patriarchal men vs. Women
  • Power driven vs. those seeking unity

The list goes on and on and on, and I don’t even know what to say about guns. Is it reasonable to argue that the second amendment protects people’s rights to own military assault weapons that are capable of committing mass murder?  Should we protect people’s rights to own bombs too?  Asking for a friend.

Division is the sad reality of our nation and I am convinced that nothing is going to change it. One might argue that change is always possible. In a recent post, popular pastor John Pavlovitz expounded on the dangers of Evangelical Christianity and issued a charge for us to do something about it. What does Pastor John suggest we do?  I’ve learned that if there’s one thing we cannot do – it is change someone’s mind. When someone is convinced their way is right, there is nothing we can do to convince them otherwise.

I’ve have freed myself from the illusion that I might change someone’s mind. I have also let go of the hope that change is possible in this nation for the simple fact that second only to death, humanity’s greatest fear is change. In many (if not most) cases, change only happens after something is pulled from our cold, dead fingers.

This is the point. The empire as we have known it is dying. As well it should! An empire built on the illusion of freedom by a bunch of slave-owning white men, where every ounce of liberty for anyone other than white men in power has been very hard one, is not a model I’m interested in continuing.  A nation built on fear, power, oppression, division, and control is by its nature unsustainable and cannot stand.  As one very wise brown skinned man once said:

“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.”  (MT 12: 25)

So it is with our nation. Rome (the USA) is burning and there is nothing we can do to stop it – neither should we try. It’s time to let it burn. There’s also nothing we need to do to hasten the burn – it’s doing a really good job all on its own. Instead, we are invited to accept the death of that which we have known, surrender to its death, and do what we can to keep ourselves safe and sane in a nation that is dying by its own hand.  Toward that end, I am holding a special LIVE event on Tuesday, June 14th via ZOOM, entitled: Surviving the Collapse of an Empire.  Click on the image below to learn more and to register.

Longing to Be Seen

Some have suggested that one of the greatest longings of the human soul is to be seen – to be really and truly seen for who we are.

As one who has the ability to see, I have found the opposite to be true.  Many (if not most) humans don’t really want to be seen because either a) they hate who they are, or b) they have something to hide. These are the folks who either run from my gaze or turn the shame of being seen back at me by making me their enemy.  I become sad when people do this because while I can see deception, I also see potential.  I see who people are as their most authentic selves if they would only allow themselves to be that.  My purpose is only to support people in becoming their most authentic selves. Sadly, some simply don’t want this – as much as they might argue otherwise.

art by Catherine E. Case used with permission

Those who are comfortable enough with themselves such that they don’t mind being seen; or who have been chomping at the bit to be seen for who they truly are so they might be that more fully, are those who thrive in my presence. I see them and encourage them in their gifts while supporting them in identifying and healing those things that are preventing them from living those gifts more fully. When the going gets rough (which it will – all work of true transformation does) I am there simultaneously holding their feet to the fire while soothing the anxiety and terror that comes when we are allowing ourselves to break free of the chrysalis that formerly imprisoned us.

As the poet Rilke said:

My looking ripens things

and they come toward me, to meet, and be met.

(Book of Hours, I, 1)

Longing to be seen may indeed be one of our greatest desires, but few have the courage to truly be seen, and even fewer have the endurance to allow the seeing to ripen into being.

Lauri Ann Lumby

Lauri’s gifts as a mentor are centered in her ability to see. She sees your truth along with what might be hindering your ability to live that truth fully. By seeing clearly, Lauri can help guide you through the process of identifying, healing and transforming the wounds, fears, traumas and conditioning that keep you from living a life in which your purpose is fully embodied and your mission fulfilled.

Lauri provides this mentoring one-on-one and through her classes and training programs.

The Modern Priestess

Priestess is a word that has been used to apply to a wide variety of meanings, experiences, and expressions.  At the Temple of the Magdalene, Priestess means something quite specific and can apply to individuals of any gender.

Being a Priestess relates not to a specific role, but to a commitment to self-development, personal fulfillment, and service.

A Priestess:

  • Is self-aware and working toward self-actualization.
  • Is accountable to their inner wounds and is working to heal them.
  • Is sovereign unto themselves.
  • Is fulfilled within themselves.
  • Enjoys a life of meaning and purpose for the sake of their own fulfillment while serving the betterment of the world.

A Priestess lives out their own sovereignty in a way that is based on their own unique giftedness and Soul-calling.

A Priestess might live out that calling in any number of ways, (not limited to the leader of ritual which seems to be the most popular expression of the neo-priestess) including teacher, healer, strategist, advisor, artist, writer, musician, business professional, CEO, medical professional, tradesperson, etc, etc, etc,.  The ways to live out one’s own sovereignty are limitless.

The Temple of the Magdalene supports the Priestess in that journey toward sovereignty by providing training programs, classes, and one-on-one mentoring for the purpose of inner personal development and transformation. The focus of our trainings is on supporting participants in identifying, healing and transforming the inner obstacles to living out their sovereignty to its fullest.

Healing the Father Wound

No matter how perfect and loving our parents might have been, no matter how well they provided for our well-being and supported us in our dreams, each one of us will experience woundedness from our parents. This woundedness may be no direct fault of their own, but simply comes forth because of what they were shown by their parents, the culture in which they were conditioned, what remains unhealed within them, and/or simply because they are human.

As we are human, so too are our parents. There is no shame in that. And yet, for many, the parental wounds become a significant obstacle to both their inner and outer freedom, as well as their ability to enter into healthy relationships and enact their own parenting. Unhealed parental wounds become stumbling blocks to our ability to become happy, healthy, and content in our lives and to find that which will provide meaning and purpose in our lives.

While reflecting specifically on the Father wound, I was provided with the following image of what the Father wound looks like (to me anyway):

Photo by Anni Roenkae on Pexels.com

As you gaze upon this image, what comes forward as your image of the Father wound?

For each individual, the Father wound will have its own color, size, shape, etc.  It will also have its own unique make up.  Of what is your Father wound made?

  • Fear?
  • Rejection?
  • Condemnation?
  • Criticism?
  • Expectations?
  • Avoidance?
  • Abandonment?
  • Cruelty?
  • Rage?
  • Co-Dependency (the need to seek his approval)?
  • Impatience?
  • Frustration?
  • Inaccessibility?
  • Disappointment?
  • Threats of violence?
  • Violence?
  • Abuse?
  • Jealousy?
  • Molestation?
  • Inappropriate or lack of boundaries?
  • Feeling unsafe?

Every individual carries their own unique experience of the Father wound which might be related to one, several, or all of the above. The first step in healing the Father wound is identifying of what that wound is made.

The second step is to enter into a transformational practice for healing and releasing that wound. Two practices I have found to be especially helpful in transforming parental wounds are Tonglen and the Ho’oponopono prayer.

Tonglen

is a Tibetan Buddhist mindfulness practice founded on the understanding that in order to heal our wounds, we need to move toward them.  Instead of resisting, ignoring, or running away from our wounds, we allow ourselves to feel them.  In allowing the feeling, we can transform the wound and release it from our bodies and our consciousness.

To heal the Father wound using Tonglen:

  1. Identify the wound along with its feeling (what does rejection feel like?).
  2. Allow yourself to feel the wound.
  3. Identify where in your body you are feeling it.
  4. While feeling the wound, breathe into the place in your body where you are feeling it.
  5. Breathe out love.  Give a visual image to that love if you find that helpful (bubbles, flowers, hearts).
  6. Breathe into the wound while feeling it.
  7. Breathe out love.
  8. Continue with the breathing into the wound and breathing out love until you feel a shift.  Perhaps you are feeling more peaceful, or the practice brings forth tears.
  9. After the shift, you have completed the practice.
  10. Return to the practice when you feel that wound triggered again, or set aside a daily practice to continue healing that experience of the Father wound.

Ho’oponopono

Ho’oponopono is a traditional Hawaiian prayer/ritual which is used to heal wounds within us that we may have experienced at another’s hand. The practice is simple and yet profoundly powerful. I have witnessed true miracles in the use of this practice.

  1. Identify the wound.
  2. Give it an image,
  3. Become aware of where this wound is held in your body (where do you feel abandonment?)
  4. Repeat the Ho’oponopono formula over and over and over to the place in your body where you feel that wound.
  5. This is the formula:

I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

Thank you.

The key to Ho’oponopono is that you are saying the formula TO YOURSELF not to the one who caused the wound.  You say it to yourself, and to the part of you that experienced the wound.

Both Tonglen and Ho’oponopono are powerful tools for healing our parental wounds. Admittedly, these practices may not be enough for many to fully heal from these wounds.  It is for this reason that I also encourage additional support through a trained spiritual director (which I am) and/or a professional therapist, or better yet, a combination of the two.  If you are finding yourself hindered by a parental wound, and are seeking for additional support, please see my information below.

When a Dream is More than a Dream

I write this from a place of profound physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion, for

last night in my dreams I was fighting demons.

Literally!  Like several of my spiritual sisters and brothers, I am increasingly finding that much of my work of service to the world is accomplished while sleeping. I know that the dreams are more than just dreams when I wake up in a cold sweat, heart pounding, and feeling exhausted – as if I’d just done battle. Because I have.

The evils we know in our world are not simply present to us on the physical plane. These evils are in the hearts and minds of human beings and are present within the collective consciousness. These evils are present within our genetic memory and are encoded in our DNA.  Scripture isn’t wrong when it says that the “sins of the father will be visited upon his sons to the third and fourth generation (Ex 20:5, 34:7).”  Evil begets evil, and it takes generations to change that.

If we want to truly be free of evil in our world, we have to address it on more than just the physical plane.  Addressing evil and its causes at the emotional and psychological level is the work of psychologists and spiritual counselors. Addressing evil on the level of consciousness, genetic memory, DNA, and in the invisible planes within and behind consciousness is the job of an exorcist.

This work of spiritual exorcism is where I am increasingly finding myself.

NOT BY MY CHOICE!  Who in their right mind would volunteer for the work of exorcism!?  And yet here is where I find myself along with several of my spiritual sisters and brothers who have come together for this work.  Whether it be through dreams, visions, or direct guidance, we are being led to the “demons” that lay behind the evil actions of humanity.  We are then asked to do the work of transforming the fears out of which these demons are made (all “demons” are made of fear, as such, all evil is caused by unhealed fears), so that the “demon” might be freed to return to its original nature as Love.

Love is indeed the Source of all.

Evil is simply unhealed fear wanting to be returned to Love.

When I’m not freaked out by this work (seriously God, exorcism!?), I am profoundly humbled and grateful for the years of inner work and disciplined training that has given me the tools and the courage to do this.  I am also grateful for and in awe of the sisters and brothers who have shown up with a similar and complementary calling.  It’s almost as if some Divine intelligence had planned this all along – a ready made team of exorcists helping to heal the world and rid it of the unhealed fears and conditioning that have caused us to forget who we really are –

The sons and daughters of LOVE.

Spiritual Counseling:

Lauri’s gifts as a spiritual counselor are centered in her ability to see.

Being an Exorcist

In my experience, there are four kinds of exorcists:

  1. The ones we see in movies modeled after the tradition of Catholic priests especially trained and commissioned to research demonic possession and if deemed demonic, also charged with freeing the “host” of said demon.
  2. The shaman-types who “eat” demons who have made a home in an animal, person, or place.
  3. Psychiatrists who successfully treat those suffering from extreme mental illness which in former times would have been labeled as possessed.
  4. Those who help regular people identify, transform, and release the demons of fear, past wounding, trauma, etc.

Normally I would say that I am solely the fourth kind of exorcist, but due to recent events, I must now acknowledge that the deeper “releasing of demons” that I’ve been doing is more akin to #1.  YIKES!

For yesterday I was given a vision and a command

The vision came during my Sunday morning yoga class.  Sitting in child’s pose, I was overcome with a terrible anxiety, bordering on panic. First, I tried stuffing down the anxiety.  Then I tried praying it away. Neither of these released the anxiety so I did what every exorcist knows to do –

Instead of running from the fear, I went into it.

As I drew closer to the fear, I began to “see” through my third eye, becoming like the three-eyed raven of Game of Thrones fame. I found myself “flying” over the world and being shown all the pockets of a world readying for war. They are legion.

I was then drawn into and past the war machine and was shown the “players.”  These players might better be called “puppet masters” for they are never on the front lines.  Instead, these are the men behind the men behind the men. These “puppet masters” are made up of a council of men hiding behind, manipulating, and controlling the wealth in the world and all the violence that created (and continues to create) and is brought about by that wealth.  These are the men who benefit from a world at war and who create the perceived conflicts that ensure the world is always at war so they may continue to grow in wealth.

I was then drawn into and through these men to the evil that feeds and sustains them, for the evil they do is not simply born out of gluttony and greed.  It is born out of the darkest and most hideous actions man can dream of – namely:

Human sacrifice, the most hideous of which is child sacrifice.

Yes. You heard me right. The evil these men feed upon is that which is sustained through the sacrifice of human life. These sacrifices include the women and men who die in war, innocents killed in the streets and in their own homes, children trafficked for the purpose of sexual/murderous acts.

I shudder to share these words, and many might accuse me of lying or being insane. I’m only telling you what I saw.  You can look away, but the reality remains.

There is true evil being done in our world and until this evil is rooted out, we will never know peace.

This is where the task of the exorcist comes in.  I’m not a Catholic priest. Neither am I a shaman. Instead, the work I do is invisible and performed in the non-physical realm. Here I remain with the visions as they come and follow the visions as they lead me toward the sources of these evils – what some might call “demons.”  At first glance, they appear as demons. Some big. Some small. Some absent of form. Then I use the tools I’ve been given (through the Holy Spirit/Shekinah) to support these “demons” in being healed of the evil that befell them so that they might return to their original nature as love.

The work is not about banishing demons, it is about restoring them to Love.

This is the work that has consumed me for the past 24 hours and which will continue to unfold as it needs to. The great news is that I have spiritual sisters and brothers who are doing similar work, so I know I am not alone. I am humbled (to the point of tears) to be called to this work and grateful for the years of what I now understand was the training necessary to develop the courage to face these evils and to be a vessel through which they might be healed so that our world might be healed.

The Devil at Your Door

The Devil at Your Door

The Irish are correct in their habit of holding good news loosely and for being always alert to the shoe that’s sure to drop. That shoe always drops, and good news is often followed by bad.  It seems to be the law of the universe.  This law has even been given a name – an Irish name at that: Murphy’s Law.

This universal law is also rooted in an often-forgotten spiritual reality.

When we are actively pursuing our spiritual growth and development, there will always be a “devil” knocking on our door.  There is truth in the religious saying that “a quiet mind is the devil’s playground,” but not in the way that the religious warn, and definitely not in the way they often prohibit spiritual practices for “fear of the devil.”  The devil who is knocking at our door is none other than ourselves – our ego attachments, false perceptions, unhealed wounds, non-loving conditioning, habitual behaviors, fears, and our attachment to the status quo.

Spiritual growth leads to change. The “devil” hates change.

Instead, the “devil” wants us to stay where we are. “He” wants us to remain small and imprisoned by our habits, our attachment to approval, our wounds, and our victimhood. The devil wants us to stay chained to the bars of the cell in which we are living that has been created by our past.

Our Soul, on the other hand, wants us to be FREE.

The Soul drives us to pursue opportunities for healing and growth. The Soul leads us toward the resources and tools we need to transform the pain of our past and to break free of it so we can know our original nature of LOVE and live out of that LOVE. The Soul guides us to those who will help us in this healing and drops gifts into our laps that will assist us along the way.

Every time we say YES to our Soul, the “devil” comes knocking at our door.

The devil shows up with all the weapons of our past wounding. In his arsenal are all the words, experiences, and thoughts that are sure to trigger our past pain and cast us into the hell of confusion, doubt, fear, depression, anxiety, panic, and self-loathing. Self-doubt is the devil’s best work. And yet, there is a gift in this.  The devil doesn’t come to cause harm, he comes for the purpose of asking us,

“Are you really sure you want to take this step toward your liberation?”

He then continues with reminders:  “Aren’t you really comfortable where you are? Isn’t the known far better than taking the risk toward something you don’t yet know? Aren’t you getting attention and other benefits from staying small?  What about the relationships that might have to end because they are solely dependent on you obeying the rules, keeping the peace, and maintaining the status quo? Won’t you miss that familiar pain and self-loathing? Why would you give all that up for the small chance that things could be better?  ….  And so on….

I have found that many, if not most, give into the devil’s pleadings. They forsake the opportunity for spiritual growth because a) they’re afraid, b) because they don’t have the tools or resources to recognize the true designs of the devil and then do something about it.  Freedom from the devil is possible – but only when we have the proper tools to meet him where he is at.

The devil is at home in our fears and unhealed wounds.

When we do the deep inner work of healing and transforming these wounds, the devil no longer has a place to live within us so he moves on in search of others he might torment.

What tools do you have for when the devil comes knocking on your door?
